Hi, I’m Manny

I grew up with cameras following me wherever I went - I didn’t appreciate it at the time! Now, there’s nothing I value more than photographs - real, printed photographs, with dates, albums … the ability to revisit your favourite memories, to remind you of your favourite days.

I have taken photos for half my life now but in the last couple of years I have gained the confidence to call myself a ‘photographer’. I try to consider my craft ‘work’ but why? It’s my passion: portraiture, specifically. The challenge, the creativity, the connection … I love meeting new people from all walks of life, from all over the world, perhaps getting the chance to make them laugh and leave them with photos they’ll have forever. My cameras and lighting equipment is, really, an accessory during my photoshoots - the most important thing to me is that my subject (you!) is comfortable and enjoying the experience. I often minimise my equipment for this reason - opting for natural light and a film camera whenever feasible.

In 2017 I took a short course in Darkroom Printing at Edinburgh College of Art, since then my vintage camera collection has grown beyond what our little flat can handle! I love the whole process of film photography and, should you spot some ‘grain’ in the photos here, that is credit to my Canon A1 from 1985 (I tend to use this during my Photowalks).

Being a photographer, to me, is ‘playing’. Every opportunity I get to work with my camera is a gift. So, thank you for visiting my website, for considering me as your photographer - please feel free to say ‘hi’!
